I think NOT!! if you want to enrich your knolwdge about something called “cars:” go to germany or japan..

Internal combustion describes ALL engines that combust their fuel/air mixture internally, numbnuts. Yes I have heard of all of this bacause most of this engine technology has been around since WWII. Ancient technology is what you are describing as Hi-tech? You are the idiot!

you sir..apart from the fact that your are an idiot you are also a retard..i know what the internal combustion engine is..i have to inform you that i’am a third year student at the automotive engineering cousre of the university of manchester. and to give you some helpfull information about cars (beacause judging by your reply you don’t have a clue about cars)..all those tecnologies i mentioned earlier have been developed no more than 20 years ago..

i don’t know if you’ve noticed but NONE of the cars made in the usa even uses one of those tecnologies..if you know any american car that incorporates any of which i reffered to earlier give me the name of it..i dare you!

DI, VTG,DOHC and VCT have been used on diesel engines for years now. Don’t forget VVT(variable valve timing). I was trained to work on certain parts of an automobile over 23years ago. I know and understand what technologies you speak of. There are several Japanese cars that I liked well enough to purchase,Mazda RX7 and Acura NSX. I build engines as a hobby and I like American V-8s,V-6s and Inline sixes,now these engines are marvels of engineering. I like all makes and types of engines.

i do too..but the type of engines or cars in general that i like the most are the ones with ultra high tech..and i am sorry to inform you that none of the modern american cars incorporates such technologies..i love the zr-1 and the camaro’s looks though..

American cars may not incorporate the technologies you mentioned. But you did mention the ZR1 which uses a pushrod V-8 and a supercharger which means it will go around the track all day long while the more expensive and more sophisticated cars are in the pits.

if the expensive and sophisticated cars you are talking about are ferraris and lamborghinis then yes..you are right..but not if we are talking about the nissan gtr ot the lexus lf-a..don’t forget the reliability of japanese cars…

Yes I do know that Japanese cars are reliable. I had a 1978 Dodge Aspen that had a 225 Slant Six. This car had 190,000 miles on the odometer when a drunk crashed into it. Just one example of reliability. It was simple and reliable. I could do all maintenance to this engine just by leaning over the fenders. I had to go under the car to do one thing and that was to drain the oil. It is common to see 200,000 to 300,000 miles. Several made it to 400,000 miles. These engines were rebuildable.

American cars may not have the latest hi-tech gear but they are reliable, affordable and economical. I have owned American cars for more than 25years. Many Japanese brands build their cars in America using American-made components because the quality is so good. Mazda vehicles are built along Ford vehicles in Ford plants. Japanese brands buy American components for sale in Japanese branded vehicles. America does the same with Japanese components. Brittain still makes the Rover V-8=1960’s GM V-8.

as for affortable and reliable i tottaly agree..but in terms of economy….

Economy of a vehicle is up to the individual driver of that vehicle. Plus alternative fuels are available. I have seen big V-8 engines mated to overdrive transmissions that can get 28mpg to 30mpg. A big engine will use less energy to do the same work as say a 4 cylinder. The need for less energy decreases the need for fuel. An 800HP V8 mated to a 6-speed OD trans will use less energy to move the vehicle than a 150HP V-6 mated to the same 6-speed OD trans, and less fuel consumption.

it really depends on the driving of each person but when your engine has the latest technology of turbocharging and direct fuel injection it will certainly be more economical..

I can honestly say that fuel injection has it’s advantages but from my experience a properly calibrated carburetor can acheive very similar fuel economy. I would use fuel injection with a turbo, carburetor with supercharger. A carburetor can be just as economical, contrary to what many think.

no it’s not..believe me..that’s what i’ve been studying so far..

Direct injection in a gasoline engine does not produce substantially better fuel economy than port injection. Fuel injection, direct or port, does not improve fuel economy substantially better than a carburetor. No signifigant proof has ever been shown to me that fuel injection is that much better. The carburetor has been upgraded through the years and can acheive great economy.
